Membership

TNSAR’s roster is currently full. If you’re interested in joining the team in the future, please fill out the application below after attending at least two general meetings. We will re-evaluate our team size, skills, and needs in Spring 2024 and may begin new member recruitment then using the pool of applicants we’ve received.

When new member recruitment restarts, this document describes the process for becoming a team member. If selected into the training pool, all prospective members must complete Livescan process through the Placer County Sheriff’s Office which includes passing a background check.

The Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team holds several training sessions each month throughout the fall, winter, and spring. Training exercises vary from terrain familiarization to first aid, avalanche safety, and backcountry navigation and are designed to be fun and informative.

Only existing team members or members of the training pool with valid California Office of Emergency Services (OES) cards are allowed to attend trainings.

The TNSAR garage is located at 223 Fairway Drive in Tahoe City, next to the Tahoe City Fire Department.

Upcoming Meetings & Trainings

Best way to stay informed is to add the TNSAR calendar (info@tahoenordicsar.org) to your Google calendar (click the + at the bottom right of the calendar to the right). When you receive your OES card, we will add you to calendar notifications. You must RSVP to the training organizer to attend any training -- a calendar accept is not an RSVP.

Team Trainings

Training is an essential part of the Team's activities — new skills are learned, old skills honed, dormant skills reawakened. You must RSVP to attend any training.

On Training days please arrive on time at the garage ready to depart.
Be sure to come to the Team trainings equipped with personal gear — specialized equipment can be borrowed from the Team truck.

The TNSAR Team Garage is located at 223 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City 96145 behind the Chevron Station, next to the Tahoe City Fire Department.

For snow trainings, check our our suggested Gear List.
For a training refresh, view Randall’s Map & Compass Presentation.

A or B team members who wish to pursue advanced training external to TNSAR should contact a board member directly with their request.

“I first decided to become a TNSAR volunteer due to the skills I could gain from being part of an organization like this. But now, it’s the camaraderie and the group of people who show up and volunteer. The camaraderie on our team is very deep seated. That’s one of the reasons why I really like working with this organization.”
